Cartas Culturales ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and what rights you have over your data. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
2a. Information You Provide
- Username and display name — required to create an account
- Email address — optional. Used only for account recovery and service communications if provided
- Password — stored as a secure one-way hash. We never store or have access to your password in plain text
2b. Preferences You Set
- Regional preferences — selected countries/regions (up to 23) used to personalize your daily cards
- Language preference — English, Spanish, or Bilingual, used to display content in your preferred language
2c. Usage Data
We collect the following data about how you use the App, used to provide and improve the service:
- Daily check-in streaks — to power the streak and achievement system
- Search queries — to return relevant results and improve content discovery
- Content engagement — which cards you view, favorite, or share
- Quiz scores and achievement points — to track learning progress and rewards
2d. Payment Data
We do not collect or store payment card information. Payments are handled entirely by:
- Apple (via RevenueCat) — for iOS in-app purchases. Apple processes and stores all payment data.
- Stripe — for web-based purchases and donations. Stripe processes and stores all payment data.
We receive only a confirmation of your purchase status (active or expired). We never receive, process, or store your card number or billing details.
3. Information We Do NOT Collect
Cartas Culturales does not collect the following, and does not request access to:
- Location data — we never request or use GPS or location services
- Contacts or address book — no access requested or used
- Photos or camera — no access requested or used
- Health or fitness data — no HealthKit or fitness API integration
- Advertising identifiers — there are no ads in this app. We do not use IDFA or any ad tracking technology
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Create and manage your account
- Deliver and personalize your daily cultural cards based on your regional and language preferences
- Track streaks, achievements, and quiz progress
- Confirm and manage your premium access status
- Send service communications (account confirmation, purchase receipts) — only if you provided an email address
- Improve App content, features, and performance
- Review content flagged by users for editorial accuracy
We do not use your data for advertising, behavioral profiling, or sale to third parties. Ever.
5. AI Services and Content Generation
Cartas Culturales uses AI services — OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity — to assist with content generation server-side only. These services are used exclusively to create cultural content (cards, phrases, history entries, and lessons).
No personal user data is ever sent to any AI service. AI providers receive only the content prompts our system generates — never your name, email, usage data, preferences, or any identifying information about you.
6. Third-Party Service Providers
We share data with third parties only to the extent necessary to operate the App:
- Apple (RevenueCat) — receives App Store purchase data to validate and manage your premium access. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Stripe — processes web payments and donations. Governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy. We receive only payment confirmation, not card details.
We do not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or data brokers. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.
7. Children's Privacy
Cartas Culturales is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has created an account, contact us at hello@cartasculturales.com and we will promptly delete the account and all associated data.
8. Data Retention and Account Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (Settings > Account > Delete Account), the following data is permanently and immediately removed:
- Profile information (username, display name, email)
- Regional and language preferences
- Streaks, quiz scores, achievements, and favorites
Purchase confirmation records (transaction IDs only, not payment details) may be retained for legal and tax compliance purposes after account deletion.
9. Security
We implement the following measures to protect your data:
- Passwords are stored using secure one-way cryptographic hashing — never in plain text
- All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections
- Payment card data is handled entirely by Apple and Stripe — we never touch raw card data
No electronic system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at hello@cartasculturales.com.
10. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction — update your information in app settings
- Deletion — permanently delete your account and all associated data from within the app
- Data portability — request your data in a portable format

11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the App or by email if provided. Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
